As an abstract artist I prefer to begin my work without a preconceived idea but rather let intuition and communication guide me. I would describe my work as process oriented with spontaneity, exploration and discovery being key elements. I incorporate random and deliberate mark making, lines, shapes and colors often in several investigative layers.
I am influenced by a rich tapestry of images from my urban upbringing as well as years of travel and living in various countries. By layering and weaving through my collection of sights and senses I allow this process to guide me, almost like a dance, between the subconscious and the conscious. What is important from each work's conception to its culmination is the search for resolution.
As the artist Jacob Lawrence once said about the creative process. "I think we always search, we always hope to find something. We don't always know what we're looking for, but we know it's there."
